As we all know, Shahrukh Khan is one of the biggest Bollywood stars in Europe, especially in Germany. May be we have Salman Khan and Aamir Khan breaking domestic box office records every once in a while. But these two could never attain the popularity and acceptance of Shahrukh Khan in Europe (and it’s growing by the day). Why is that so? May be because of his romantic image. This gentle, shy superstar is a huge draw in most of the European countries including Germany, France, Austria etc. Shahrukh Khan’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was dubbed in to German language and it played on German prime time TV. Surprisingly, the movie turned out to be a huge hit among German viewers. That was just the beginning. Germans love the family oriented, romantic and emotional story lines of Bollywood films, especially in Shahrukh Khan movies. However, Bollywood considers such kind of films a cliche now and those types of movies are fast becoming extinct. Shahrukh Khan is such a huge star in Germany that he shot his movie Don 2 in Germany!

On the 7th day of their release (Wednesday), Shahid Kapoor’s Haider and Hrithik Roshan’s Bang Bang continues to do well at the Indian box office. However, Bang Bang saw bigger drop compared to Haider on non-holiday weekdays. After a 5 days long holiday weekend, Bang Bang saw close to 60% drop from its Friday figure whereas Haider saw only 50% drop in the collection. Bang Bang further fell down on 7th day collecting 8.23 crore nett. With that, Bang Bang has collected 128.03 crore nett in India. The movie is fast approaching the 150 crore mark and it will be able to become the 2nd biggest grosser of 2014 beating Ajay Devgn-Kareena Kapoor starer Singham Returns (141 crore nett in India). Salman Khan’s Kick is the biggest grosser of the year collecting more than 200 crore nett in India (233 crore exactly).
Hrithik Roshan – Katrina kaif starer Bang Bang and Shahid Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starer Haider opened at the box office on October 2nd. After 6 days, both the movies are doing steady business at the box office.
Bang Bang has crossed 200 crore in gross collection globally in first 6 days! As for nett, collection, it has collected 119.80 crore nett in 6 days (it collected 10.31 crore nett on Tuesday). The movie crossed 100 crore mark in India in first 5 days. Right now, it’s the 3rd highest grosser of 2014 behind Kick & Singham Returns. Also, it beat Salman Khan’s Jai Ho & Akshay Kumar’s Holiday to take the 3rd position on the list. Since Tuesday was a non-Holiday, there was a significant drop in collections as expected. The chances are high for the movie to beat Ajay Devgn-Kareena Kapoor starer Singham Returns to become the 2nd biggest grosser of the year.
The big budget action flick Bang Bang starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif got released on October 2nd. On the same day, another film, though not a biggie, got released – Shahid Kapoor & Shraddha Kapoor starer Haider, which is ace director Vishal Bharadwaj’s 3rd Shakespearan adaptation set in Kashmir. Bang Bang is the official remake of Hollywood hit ‘Knight and Day’ starring Tom Cruise & Cameron Diaz. Though these two movies are as different as chalk and cheese, their clash made huge news. Fans voted for Haider when we conducted a poll to find the audience favorite. Bang Bang is a crowd-pleaser with enough number of adrenalin pumping action sequences, whereas Haider is a film meant for class audience in the metros. Obviously, Bang Bang had an upper hand at the box office especially since it got released in 4200 screens in India (another 800 in overseas markets). At the same time, Haider had mere 1200 screens in India! So, everyone thought that Haider makers were not being smart to release their indie film with a biggie like Bang Bang.
Fans have always been curious to see the photo of Shahrukh Khan’s 1 year old son Abram who was born on May 27, 2013. But King Khan never let the paparazzi to click his son’s pictures. Both Shahrukh Khan and Guari were very clear that they didn’t want their toddler to be the center of attention for no reason. In fact, they went lengths to prevent Abram from getting photographed.
Finally, the wait is over, as King Khan himself tweeted Abram’s first pic on Eid.
For those who have been following this website will know that we have always appreciated Shahid Kapoor for his immense talent, even when Bollywood failed to do so. Today, after Vishal Bharadwaj’s highly celebrated Haider, Shahid Kapoor is in the limelight for his towering performance as a Kashmiri Hamlet. He’s garnering praise from all quarters.
Interestingly, Many critics (for example, this article) feel that Shahid Kapoor has finally arrived as an actor! Let me tell you, they are totally wrong! He had arrived several years ago!. It’s just that, most of them in Bollywood are incapable of spotting the true talent. People in Bollywood have a tendency to favor mediocrity. That would explain why we see many mediocre actors being hailed as the ‘most talented’ in this industry.
Hrithik Roshan & Katrina Kaif starer Bang Bang is doing really well at the box office. The action film benefited big time with the strategic released date where it got 5 days long extended weekend, which is very rare! Despite having competition from Shahid Kapoor’s Haider, Bang Bang has managed to come up with a good total. It collected 94.13 crore nett in India in first 4 days (Thurs-Sunday)! Given Monday is also a Holiday (Bakrid), it is expected to easily cross the 100 crore mark on 5th day! As for the gross figure, it collected 134.47 crore in India after 4 days.
