It must have been a historic day for the Indian television, if the response to Aamir Khan’s TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is anything to go by. The show had its premiere at 11 AM today and the show sent shock waves across the country on a serious topic ‘female foeticide’, which has been spreading like a plague in the Indian society. The reach and impact of this serious issue were brought to light by couple of journalists in the past, but none of them could make their point as effectively as Aamir Khan if the endless discussion on the show on various social networking websites are anything to go by.
Couple of days ago, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon was in Mumbai and he met lot of Bollywood personalities at the party hosted by Mukesh Ambani. He pointed out that Bollywood stars can bring in a sea change in the society with their star power. Yes, he was right – look at Satyamev Jayate – a serious topic like ‘female foeticide’ has never had this much attention amid various media trying to pin point on the issue. That’s the power of a star – unfortunately, not too many Bollywood stars have a clue about what they can achieve outside the glamorous world.
Aamir Khan, who has always been known as a visionary and trend setter, silently worked on the show for almost 2 years. He put together a wonderful creative team and they spent several months on research alone. And that clearly shows when Mr. Khan presents his facts on the show!
We have already said it once, we’ll say it once again “Aamir Khan is evolving more and more like a National figure”. Yes, he could have been happy with his massive HITS in Bollywood. If he was looking for a money spinning show he could have opted for a game show or another lazy reality show. Instead, he passionately worked on a non-entertainment show closely for 2 years! However, we shouldn’t forget one thing here – Aamir Khan has got a special talent to make his middle-of-the-road projects work be it movies or a TV show, all thanks to his one-of-its-kind-brain brimming with fruitful marketing ideas. Therefore, we can’t blame other Bollywood stars for their lack of eagerness.
Mark our words – In next 3 years, most of the big Bollywood stars will venture in to issue based TV shows leaving the reality shows behind. However, Aamir will be busy working on something completely new either for the big screen or small screen when others are busy catching up to what he started years ago!
