Yes, our regular visitors have voted in favour of Rani, who won with a unprecedented margin (33% of the voters stood by her), forcing other nominees like Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor to be content with the not-so-encouraging percentage of votes in their favour! We congratulate Rani on the same!
Rani deserved the title more than anyone else this year, for the sheer determination displayed by her to claim her position in the otherwise male chauvinistic industry. Heroes can be in their 40s and 50s with 20 something sons and daughters in this industry, yet there is no stopping for them and they are allowed to romance 20 something heroines! But when a heroine turns 30 or enters wedlock (even motherhood), she’s finished and then she becomes the last thing these heroes want to see.
Despite her contemporaries (read Preity Zinta) almost bidding good bye to the industry, Rani didn’t give up and made an impactful comeback in Rajkumar Gupta’s second film No One Killed Jessica. When heroines were considered to be the weakest link in the chain, they proved everyone wrong in 2011 with the flourishing success of No One Killed Jessica and The Dirty Picture.
Rani had the best lines a heroine had in the recent times (of course, besides Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture) and she made the character of a journalist very bold, in-your-face, tough and today. She also made rich expletives fashionable as her character uses plenty of cuss words in the movie (only to project the edginess of that character).
Rani is bestowed with arresting earthy beauty, unparalleled talent (remember Black?), mellifluous husky voice – what more do you want? For her fighting spirit, she walks away with much deserved star of the year title! Give it up for Rani!
